About Physiotherapy Coverage

About Physiotherapy Coverage

If you have been injured at work and carry Worker's Compensation Coverage, you must file your claim with your Worker's Compensation Board (WCB).

  • Refer to www.wcb.ab.ca for further information on Alberta WCB Claim procedures.
  • Refer to www.wcbsask.com for further information on Saskatchewan WCB procedures.

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident your Physiotherapy treatment costs will be covered by your insurer in most cases.  It is important that you communicate with your insurance representative to report your claim and to ensure that proper documentation has been completed.

For injuries that are not the result of work or motor vehicle accidents, your coverage options will vary depending on: i) if you are an Alberta or Saskatchewan resident, and ii) if you carry extended health coverage through a private healthcare plan.

Saskatchewan and Alberta Residents:

Saskatchewan Blue Cross, Alberta Blue Cross, or other extended health insurance plans/work benefit plans usually provide coverage for private Physiotherapy services (always consult your plan provider to be aware of coverage and if there are limitations to coverage). Private visits are paid for at time services rendered.  Receipts for treatment costs can then be submitted to the patient's private plan for reimbursement.
